Adobe Audition (Final Draft)

For my Adobe Audition project, I decided to create a narrative in which I interviewed two of my close friends to hear about their opinion regarding communal showers. This project correlates with my blog’s theme of communal showers because the question’s I asked my guest revolved around communal showers.

I was influenced by a variety of audio works, especially podcasts which is how I tried to format my project. One podcast in particular I was inspired by was the You Made It Weird podcast by Pete Holmes. As a listener, I felt like I was sitting in the same room as the conversation taking place and I hoped to create a similar feeling for the listeners of my project.

From beginning to end of my project I first began by deciding what kind of story I wanted to tell. The Edward Murrow interview from the Adobe Audition tutorials inspired me to create an interview along with podcasts I had listen to in the past.

Once I was set on creating an interview, I then recorded ambient sounds, such as the running shower and “silence” in one of the rooms I was doing my interviews in. After I recorded a sufficient amount of ambient sounds I then interviewed my two guests using my iPhone 7 in quiet rooms so unwanted noise would not be picked up.

When I was satisfied with my recordings, I then uploaded all of them on to a new multitrack session and began editing and cutting each track to fit in the 1 to 2 minute requirement of the project. This part of my creation process was the most enjoyable for me because I got to listen to my project come to life.

While editing, I used the cut tool to change the length of my recordings and get the desired portions of each recording. I also used the move tool to put those recordings in place. Some of my recordings were either too quiet or too loud so I also had to do some adjusting with the volume of my audio.

This was the steps leading up to my rough draft which I felt was lacking certain elements. To compensate I added both and intro and outro, to help aid the narrative of my project. I also added an instrumental to both my intro and outro to grab my listeners’ attention and to add more elements to my project. Because I felt my project started and ended abruptly, I had the music fade in and out to add a smoother transition.

Compared to the other Adobe software, Audition was fairly simple for me to use. If anyone was struggling with Adobe Audition, I would suggest that they review the tutorials provided in the Com 210 course and then look up tutorials on YouTube. The only problems I was concerned with while using Audition was finding a quiet enough room to do my interviews but I was able to do so.

All the materials in this project were created by me except for the instrumental used in the beginning and end of my project and the link to it can be found below.

Adobe Audition Project (Rough Draft)

For the Adobe Audition project I decided to create a narrative in which I interviewed two of my close friends to hear their opinion of communal showers. My project correlates with my blog’s theme of communal showers because the interview was circulated around communal showers.

Over the summer I listen to a variety of podcasts and was inspired by ones such as You Made It Weird with Pete Holmes because it was a very personal podcast almost like the listener was sitting in on the conversation. I tried to accomplish this right away in my intro.

From beginning to end of this project I first started by trying to gather ideas and information for what kind of project I wanted to create. I was inspired by podcast I had listened to earlier and the Edward Murrow interview we used in the Adobe Audition tutorials.

From there I gathered ambient sounds which could be used as fillers and transitions in my interview. I recorded a running shower head and “silence” in one of the rooms I gave interviews in. From there I interviewed my two participates in virtually quiet rooms using my iPhone 7.

Once I had all  my recordings, I put all the recordings in a new multitrack session and began editing. During the editing process, I primarily used the Move and Razor tool to crop and edit each piece until I was satisfied. I also adjusted the volume of each sound bite and added a fade in and out to the shower recording.

Creating the elements of my project were fairly simple compared to my previous two projects. At first I was concerned that I would not be able to find a room quiet enough to do the interviews or that my phone microphone would have poor quality but I was satisfied with my results.

For me, Adobe Audition was fairly simple to use compared to Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. I did not face much technical difficulties. However, if someone was having trouble with Adobe Audition, I would suggest that they review the tutorials presented in the Com 210 course.

All the materials in this project were created by me.
